No one intentionally overpays for a home, but here's how buyers can get tripped up and ripped off.
1. Open Houses - working with the Seller's agent without a Buyer's agent.
2. Needing to move quickly - emotional decisions.
3. Property was not appraised--pay attention cash buyers.
4. Home is priced above neighborhood's comps. Find an experienced Buyer's agent for that area.
5. Waiving home inspection and facing future repairs such as roofs and HVAC.
6. Failing to research building permits for roof, HVAC, and window replacement before making an offer.
7. Low inventory, multiple offers and bidding wars.
8. Not working with an experienced Realtor and negotiator.
