Where Locals Go in Sarasota

June 17th, 2023 3:44 PM by Linda Holley

Have you been to the drum roll or the circle? If you have to ask what these places are, it's a dead giveaway that you're not a local.

The Jetty: Large rocks between channel that was dredged in 1937. South Jetty is in the City of Venice and the North Jetty is in Nokomis. You'll find picnic tables, restrooms, food, fishing, and great sunset views at the South Jetty. From the North Jetty, watch as boats travel from the Intracoastal Waterway to the Gulf of Mexico.

The Key: An eight-mile barrier island featuring Siesta Key beach, world renowned for soft, white powder quartz sand. Waterfront homes, gulf and bay-side condos, nightlife, and great restaurants.

Drum Roll: Sunday late afternoon gathering at Siesta's public beach pavilion. Local musicians and drums roll until sunset.

Mote:  Marine laboratory and aquarium. Ocean community's great scientific minds are involved in marine conservation. Aquarium exhibits include open water Shark Zone, to sting rays, reef animals, sea turtles, manatees, and more.

The Circle: Has nothing to do with the hundreds of traffic circles in our city. St Armands Circle has  first-class dining, shopping, and sidewalk cafes.

Selby: Unique botanical gardens with tropical plants and trees on the Sarasota Bay. Bring a book, grab a salad or sandwich at the cafe. Kids love playing in the tree house and around the banyan tree. Don't forget to visit the gift shop.

Michaels: Michael's on East - fine dining, catering, wine cellar; events, parties, galas.

Morton's.  Morton's Gourmet Market on Osprey Avenue - bakery, pasty, gourmet-to-go, fresh produce and seafood.

The Exchange: Consignment operation where profits are annually awarded to local arts and cultural organizations and students pursing a higher education in the arts.

So now you know where to go and how to talk the talk in Sarasota, Florida. If I can help you with any of your real estate needs, don't hesitate to reach out.
