Hurricane Helene visited Florida on September 26 followed by Hurricane Milton on October 10, 2024. I left the state for both storms, but I'll stay in Florida because I love the lifestyle. But I have no problem running from storms three days before they arrive. Have car will travel and that's what I tell buyers. Get flood insurance, insure the contents of your home but run like heck when the storms are headed our way. I went to Atlanta, north Georgia, and Charleston, SC.
If these storms will impact home sales, one wouldn't know by the pending home sales. Here are the home-buying statistics for new real estate contracts in Sarasota County during the period September 28 (two days after Helene) until yesterday, October 17, 2024.
A total of 311 buyers recently signed contracts to purchase homes in Sarasota County during and after the storms--60% are new homes. Here's where people decided to buy since Helene and Milton hit Florida. These statistics below include both new homes and resales for Sarasota County only; home sales in Manatee County, Florida, are also booming but not included in these numbers.
Nokomis = 30 new contracts; North Port = 69; North Venice = 8; Sarasota = 123; Venice = 61.
The WINNER is...the City of SARASOTA.
