We Floridians are thrilled that the election is FINALLY over after watching months of negative TV ads. Everyone agrees that the real issues were not in the forefront of our gubernatorial race, just past performance of former Republican Governor Charlie Crist (now Democrat) and the incumbent Republican Governor Rick Scott.

Sarasota Herald Tribune article by Jeremy Wallace, Political Editor: Scott closed a rally in Venice a few days ago by saying, “It’s about jobs,” and his platform was reducing the state’s unemployment to 6.3 percent from 10 percent. Things are looking up in Sarasota County for the Democrats: at one time, this was safely considered to be a Republican county, but Rick Scott won by just 5,000 votes here. Florida House Representative Ray Pilon, a 69-year old former Sarasota County Sheriff’s deputy, county commissioner and lobbyist for the Peace River-Manasota Regional Water Supply Authority, is committed to water conservation, which is expected to be of primary interest in our next Florida House session.

I’ll keep you informed about the Florida economy from local housing market trends. Around the corner from my home in Palmer Ranch are several beautiful new subdivisions and this brings more jobs to construction workers, plumbers, electricians, inspectors, lenders, and more work for realtors!

If you need more information about water restrictions in Florida, call 941-955-2325 and to report violations, call 954-7002. I’ll keep you informed about water conservation efforts in my future “Green Blogs.” A 2008 report on water conservation indicated that Georgia and Florida could face a serious water shortage due to climate change. The National Association of Realtor’s “Green” professional designation provides very little training for realtors about water conservation in homes. My hunch is that more training for realtors on water efficiency is going to be a hot topic.
